Fostering the whole child and developing the students’ ability to participate in a diverse world is an integral part of RHP's mission. Art’s true value lies in what it does for students’ cultural awareness and growth. Exposure to the arts helps make young people, more tolerant and empathetic. Arts experiences boost critical thinking, teaching students to take the time to be more careful and thorough in how they observe the world.
The art department consists of dedicated, caring and highly qualified teachers: professional artists who are extremely passionate about their disciplines and about igniting the fire of creativity. Thinking outside the box, being original, and developing one's own style are the signatures of our arts program. Students develop excellent skills, encouraged by teachers who focus on basic techniques and art history while conveying their love and enthusiasm for the artistic aspects of a comprehensive education.
Our students have gained regional and national recognition, winning awards, and competitions, and earning top marks in AP art. Many students regularly gain admission to prestigious art colleges including The Art Institute of Chicago and Rhode Island School of Design, while all of our graduates continue to make the arts part of their lives as critically thinking, empathetic and culturally aware citizens of the world.
