Rolling Hills Preparatory School has embraced and exemplified what it means to be a green campus since 2007 when the school moved to its spectacular location on Palos Verdes Drive North. Reducing the carbon footprint and encouraging the campus population to embrace an environmentally sound lifestyle is a distinguishing RHP characteristic. The construction of the campus in 2007 included numerous green initiatives such as maintaining the proper ratio of trees to people and recycling demolished structures. These efforts distinguished RHP as the first green campus in the US (built from the ground up) west of the Mississippi River. RHP continues to explore ways to incorporate other environmental initiatives that will reduce the school’s carbon footprint. This initiative recently led to our installing 700 solar panels in order to reduce the school's energy bill by an estimated 93%. At certain times of the year, the school pumps energy back into the Southern California grid, becoming a source of power for others.

Nature Spaces

Being environmentally conscious is a priority at RHP and we have designed several spaces on campus to connect students with nature.
  • Production-sized Greenhouse
  • California Native Plant Walk
  • Husky Garden
  • Outdoor Kitchen & Classroom

Husky Garden

Our new garden is located in the West Wing of our campus. It features an outdoor kitchen, outdoor classroom, 16 raised beds, and a wide variety of flowers, vegetable plants, and fruit trees. Learning in the garden is incorporated in many aspects of Renaissance's curriciulum, especially in middle school.
