Huskies with Heart - Benefiting Children in Foster Care

The 1st Annual Huskies with Heart Family Day will take the place of our Fathers’ Breakfast and Mothers Tea events, combining the spirit of a family day with a hands-on opportunity to do something extraordinary for children in foster care. We will be working together to fill hundreds of backpacks with hygiene supplies, blankets, rain jackets, socks, school supplies, and thoughtful, handwritten notes. These backpacks will then be given to foster youth via the Alliance for Children’s Rights to help ease the transition process as they are moved from home to home. It’s a heartbreaking truth that the majority of foster kids receive only a black trash bag to carry their belongings from place to place. Together, the RHP & REN community can give these kids something that will be truly helpful and meaningful in their lives. (*Added bonus - all kids will earn service hours for attending the event - they must check-in and out - and helping us. See below for opportunities to earn extra hours!)

How you can help:

1) CONTRIBUTE: We still need supplies: new and gently used backpacks are very much appreciated. Please, if you donate a gently used backpack, please wash it first. Other items: toothbrushes, sample size toothpaste, small containers of hand sanitizer, floss, soap, pencils, pens, notebooks, fleece blankets, rain ponchos, socks, sample size lotion, make-up bags, coloring books, and feminine hygiene products.

If you’d like to keep it easy, here’s a link to the Huskies with Heart Amazon Wish List. Pick what you’d like to contribute and it will get sent directly to the organizers. If you do the shopping yourself, you can either drop it off in the collection bins by the front office at the school, or email dlagoldberg@mac.com to arrange pick-up.

2) VOLUNTEER & RSVP: Does your child need to earn service hours? Click here to sign them up for a shift helping us set up tables, food, supplies, break-down at the end of the event, etc. This is a great opportunity to earn additional hours. Spots are limited for these extra hours so please sign up quickly. Please, so we know how much food to have on hand to keep our awesome families tummies full. We will serve breakfast and have pizza for lunch. We encourage every family’s participation. Click here to RSVP & SIGN UP TO VOLUNTEER.

Not only is this a wonderful way for our kids to get involved in giving back to others in the community, but a chance for kids and parents to participate in this compassionate effort as a family, and of course, as a Husky family.

Hello Dolly - Upper School Musical
RHP & Renaissance Schools present the Tony Award Winning Hello, Dolly! at the historic Warner Grand Theatre. Based on Thornton Wilder's The Matchmaker, this beloved musical is filled with classic tunes, including It Only Takes A Moment, When The Parade Passes By, Put On Your Sunday Clothes and, of course, the title song itself Hello, Dolly!

Internships take place from May 28 to June 7
Please Consider Hosting a Senior Internship
Rolling Hills Prep and Renaissance School seniors spend the last two weeks of their high school careers at an unpaid internship, where they put their education to work for at least 30 hours per week. This year the internship period will be from May 28 to June 7. If your company or organization can use a resourceful young person to perform simple tasks, sit in on meetings and take notes, run errands, do computer research, and learn about the working world, please offer an internship. Email internship coordinator Gayle Taylor at gtaylor@rollinghillsprep.org with questions or an internship description.
