Media is both as a descriptor of an informational source and as a means of artistic expression.
The primary goals of Media Literacy are to help students become strong readers, consumers and users of mass and social media.
Students learn to think critically about the media as it relates to citizenship and democracy, develop an understanding of the visual message of the media and obtain a growing visual literacy.
Students explore semiotics, the ways in which media progresses hegemony, and critique the media with self-created media.
This class is aimed at encouraging critical thinking in the use of art and allowing students to explore and expand their use of their chosen media.
