Message from Student Body President
My
name is Zachary Trites and I have attended prep since 7th grade and I
want to express how everything happens for a reason.
One event or minor thing can change your whole life. My event starts
off with my older sister. It was her 8th grade year at Holy Trinity of
San Pedro. She was a great softball and volleyball player for her club
and school teams. Her school softball team was in the CYO championship
game and before the game my parents told her, “If you guys lose,
you will have to go to your club volleyball games”. She replies
with, “Fine, whatever.”
Well, it was the last inning of the game two outs runners on second and
third and my sister’s team was leading 3-2. All they needed was
one out to be champions. The girl up to bat hits a soft grounder to the
third basemen who fields it cleanly but throws it over the first basemen’s
head. Both runners score and they lose.
So my sister and my family go to her volleyball games at Rolling Hills
Gymnasium. She gets out of the car with a scowl on her face to play several
matches of volleyball. On the other hand, I stayed outside throwing my
baseball against a wall when a scary looking man with a New York Mets
hat on says, “Hey you, you little kid, get out of here. What is
the matter with you?”
So I ran off as fast as I could. After hiding for a while I went to see
my dad. When I turned the corner the same scary man was talking to my
father. That was when my heart started pounding because I thought I was
in trouble. But the scary man was talking about having my sister attend
Rolling Hills Prep school. I later figured out that the scary man's real
name is Mr. Brian Knigin.
My sister attended Rolling Hills Prep and it changed her life. Teachers
figured out she had a learning disability and helped her. Now she is a
successful student at Cal State Long Beach. If she didn’t attend
prep she probably wouldn’t even be in college. But the main person
I have to thank is the third basemen who over threw first base because
that one throw brought success into my family’s life. Now if she
did make that throw to first I would probably be in a uniform right now
at a strict catholic school listening to a teacher talk about tying shoes
correctly.
