Co-Chairs, Mitchell Ozawa and Rick Fruhling
From Mitch Ozawa: It is with great pride and pleasure that I am serving as Co-Chair of this year's Annual Fund Campaign. RHP and Renaissance are truly exceptional schools which have had an enormous positive impact on my family. The small school setting, individualized attention, and strong student/faculty support have enabled my daughter to become confident and independent, while maintaining her spirit of life. We have found that RHP and Renaissance possess the unique ability to bring out the best in all of their students while shaping their lives through the Four Pillars. So please join me in supporting this wonderful learning environment. Your generosity does make a difference.
From Rick Fruhling: This year I have the honor of representing RHP as the Co-Chair of the Annual Fund Campaign. By enrolling our children at RHP, we have affirmed the value of education and the importance RHP plays in our children's lives. The school strives to provide a balanced educational experience with a strong academic emphasis, complementing this with outstanding programs in the arts, horticulture, robotics, drama and music, athletics, and outdoor education. While many schools around us are facing increasing class sizes, cuts in student services, and a reduction in faculty, RHP is striving to give more. This is why we need your help.
As an independent school, RHP relies entirely on the money received from supporters like you. We realize that you have already paid a large sum of money in the form of tuition as well as other ancillary costs, but these amounts do not cover all of the costs at RHP. The Annual Fund is an essential way to supplement the school's budget and allow RHP to continue growing along with our students. Each year we count on your added support.
This year's Annual Fund goal is to reach 100% participation from all the classes in the school. In these tough economic times, a gift in any amount is greatly appreciated and goes a long way toward supporting the excellent education at RHP and Renaissance. We are hoping that everyone who is a part of our community (friends, relatives, alumni, etc.) will give in any way they can.
We are a great and fortunate community at Rolling Hills Prep and Renaissance Schools. The continued success of this community rests upon the generosity of each of its members. Achieving 100% participation through your tax deductible gift establishes all of us as active members of the community as well as supporting the outstanding education our children receive at RHP and Renaissance.
Thank you in advance for your contribution!
Sincerely,
Mitchell Ozawa and Rick Fruhling
With your support, RHP will continue to improve this campus home in which students thrive. Its outstanding teachers will continue to provide a well-rounded education for RHP students, stimulating their intellectual curiosity in ways that will keep them engaged in learning and in the world around them through college and beyond.

Your contribution to the Annual Fund is important for a number of reasons:
- As with all independent schools, contributions keep tuition lower than it would be otherwise, allowing more students to benefit from an RHP education and keeping the school competitive;
- The Annual Fund provides educational equipment and supplies that enrich the quality of education provided by the school;
- Broad-based donor support is a solid indicator of RHP's success and encourages outside funders and funding institutions to also invest in the school's future.
- A donation to the Annual Fund is a tax-deductible way to support this great school.

Our Annual Fund Giving Circles are built on the Husky theme. We think this is appropriate, since Huskies descend from the original sled dogs in the Arctic, work together well as a team, and helped entire tribes of people to survive in new lands where they built flourishing communities. Please find the donation level that's right for you and enjoy the benefits of belonging to one of our husky groups.
The Iditarod Circle
"The Iditarod covers 1150 miles of the roughest terrain on earth. The participants must be dedicated, tough and determined to meet this extraordinary challenge and achieve their goal." - History of the Iditarod
The Iditarod Circle honors our highest level donors. Members of this Circle will have all the benefits listed below, and will receive additional customized benefits.
The Lead Dog Circle
"It is the responsibility of the lead dogs to set the pace for the rest of the dog sledding team and to steer the sled. Lead dogs must be particularly intelligent and good at keeping to the trail when conditions and visibility are poor." - History of the Iditarod
Lead Dogs donate at least $2500 per year, with a commitment of three years, allowing the school to plan for several years at a time, and providing a consistent level of support for the schools.
Lead Dog members will receive:
- A signature pin, unique to this Giving Circle.
- Invitations to exclusive thank-you events in the spring and fall, at very special locations.
- An invitation to a private reception before or after the spring musical, with preferred seating at the show.
- Invitations to other special events, previews or activities at the school
- A private lunch with Peter or the teacher of your choice, at a time to be mutually agreed.
The Swing Dog Circle
"Behind the lead dogs come the quick-witted swing, or point, dogs. It is their job to "swing" the dog sledding team around the twists and turns of the trail and maintain a smooth flow." - History of the Iditarod
Swing Dogs contribute $1,000 per year.

FAQ's
We invite you to learn more about our Annual Fund by reviewing some of the most frequently asked questions:
The Annual Fund is made up of the gifts that alumni, parents, grandparents and friends of Rolling Hills Prep and the Renaissance School make in response to yearly requests for support. Gifts to the Fund are spent on current operations during the school year in which they are received and have a direct impact on the quality of the facilities and programs.
Why should I support the Annual Fund?
As with almost all independent schools, we rely on the Annual Fund to keep tuition as low as possible. A donation to the Fund allows you to contribute to the supportive educational environment at the school and to receive a tax deduction for your donation.
It's simple. You can use the envelope that was sent to all our families (and is available in the office). You can pledge to pay by a certain date, include a check, or give us your credit card number. You can also go to our website and use the easy Click and Pledge option to charge your credit card. We will be happy to provide stock transfer information as well.
Annual gifts help support the operating budget. Your donation to the Annual Fund supports every aspect of school life - from enhanced technology, campus improvements and financial aid, to signature programs such as horticulture, robotics, and video production. Unrestricted gifts to the Annual Fund are a vital part of each year's operating budget, applied where they are needed most, when they are needed.
What is the average size gift made to The Annual Fund?
During the 2007 - 2008 school year, the average gift made to The Annual Fund was $560.
How can my gift make a difference?
Every gift counts toward increasing our participation rate. By making a gift, the donor is choosing to take an active role in the life of our schools. By having a high participation rate, we demonstrate to the community the value of an education here. Every gift is important to us!
While all gifts to the fund are important and appreciated, Giving Circles are a way to recognize those who provide a higher level of support. The Iditarod, Lead Dog, and Swing Dog Circles will provide extra benefits to their members. See the Giving Circle brochure for more information about these exciting opportunities.
What are matching gifts and will my employer match my gift?
Matching gifts are dollars matched by employers in response to charitable contributions made by employees. To find out if your employer is a matching gift company, please contact your personnel or human resources office. To have your gift matched, complete a matching gift form and return it, along with your contribution, to the Advancement Office. Matching gifts can help you qualify for Annual Fund Giving Circles.

If you have any further questions or want to know more, please feel free to call Barbara Dye in the Advancement Office, 310-791-1101 ext. 156 or by email at bdye@rhps-k12.com. Thank you!
