When watching our runners complete a sprint or a four-mile loop around the campus and surrounding areas you can feel the enthusiasm and teamwork in action. RHP runners truly love what they are doing. The team welcomes all participants and the coaches create a supportive environment that allows each runner to achieve his or her personal best.
The cross country program has continued to grow and prosper over the years The running route winds through the school's property, a challenging course that traverses the upper and lower campuses past eucalyptus, acacias and sunflowers. The team competes in four or five regional meets per year, as well as a full Coastal League schedule of meets, and has made it to the finals at Mt. Sac on a number of occasions. Many runners have gone on to run cross country at the university level.
The track and field program is in its seventh year. The team practices on campus, with the sprinters and field sports on our beautiful fields, and the distance runners using the cross country course.
The Cross Country and Track teams are coached by Monique Valentine. A former runner at track powerhouse Long Beach Poly High School. Athletic Director Brian Knigin says that Valentine is an "excellent teacher and coach. She has great knowledge of all aspects of running - training, nutrition, and conditioning. Mo's energy and enthusiasm is infectious - we have had record numbers for both cross country and track and field in her tenure as head coach. This is due to Mo's ability to connect so well with our young runners and jumpers." She is a true husky and I appreciate all her efforts with our athletes on and off the track.
