Basketball is one of the oldest sports at RHP, with a history of great teams, outstanding coaching and tournament success. Basketball teams are played at the RHP facility on Oak Street in Torrance, a 22,000 square foot facility with three full court basketball courts and five volleyball courts. With comfortable bleachers for the fans, it's an excellent place to watch games and cheer on the teams. Fans and team members affectionately call it the "Dog Pound," since it's full of Huskies.

RHP boys' basketball has been to six C.I.F. championship games, winning the Championship in 1998, 2002, 2003, and 2004. The team has also won numerous Harbor League and Express League championships through the years.
The team is coached by Ryan Silver, who has had assistant coaching stints at Malibu, Newport Harbor, El Segundo, Lawndale and now at Rolling Hills Prep. He attended Malibu High School and went on to college at UCLA. Athletic Director Brian Knigin says "Silver's dream has always been to be a basketball head coach, and we are happy to have made his dream come true. He brings a wealth of knowledge from his varied experiences and enormous enthusiasm and excitement to the program. We are looking forward to great things!"
The RHP Junior Varsity Boys' Basketball concentrates on building the skill level of its players. Made up primarily of freshmen and sophomores, the coaches are expert at teaching fundamentals and confidence building. By the end of the season the team has bonded and learned to play the game.
JV Basketball coach Zach Zuvich attended RHP, where he was a member of the 2004 CIF Championship basketball team. Currently he is a sophomore at Harbor College as well as coach for RHP.
Coached by Brooks Provenchain, this team focuses on skill development, with a no-cut policy. Using those skills well, the team had an undefeated season and won a League championship in 2008-9
This team has been on hiatus for a few years, but will be returning in 2009. Based on the great record of the Middle School team in 2007-8, expectations are bright that the team will return to the successful record of past teams, with League Championships every year from 1997-98 through 2003-04, and a CIF Championship in 2003-04.
The Middle School team had a very successful season in 2007-8, making it to the League Finals. Also coached by Brooks Provenchain, this no-cut spring sport develops teamwork and shooting and playing skills.
