Welcome to our Academic Program. Here you will find information about the wide range of rigorous and exciting academic offerings at Rolling Hills Preparatory School.

Rolling Hills Preparatory School (RHP) was founded in 1981 upon the premise of educating the whole student -- a philosophy we continue to embrace in our twenty-eighth year. Our low student/teacher ratio (class average of 17), enables the faculty to truly get to know each student and his or her learning style. While maintaining high standards, our faculty utilize a variety of teaching techniques and styles in order to ensure understanding, critical analysis, and synthesis. As one recent student phrased it, "At Prep you can't fall through the cracks, even if you want to, because the teachers won't let you!"

As our young people progress through RHP, the academic structure fosters increased responsibility in students. An emphasis is placed on students identifying and strengthening their own learning styles as well as developing efficient and effective time management skills. A combination of challenge and support provides the foundation upon which the curriculum is based. Teachers have high expectations of their students, and go out of their way to help all students realize their goals. In short, each faculty member partners in the success of all students and their families.

Rolling Hills Preparatory School offers a traditional academic program to each student in grades six through twelve. We include multiple learning approaches while emphasizing hands-on learning. This provides a stimulating, enriching, and exciting school environment.

In Middle School, students are encouraged and challenged to step out of their comfort zones in order to find their own voices. In doing so, each student is able to gain confidence while successfully navigating through academics, arts, and athletics. RHP Middle School students also develop an increased sense of responsibility, and are encouraged to take the initiative for their learning during these formative years.

In Upper School, RHP works with each student to determine a class schedule that meets the student's academic and creative needs as closely as possible in order to learn and grow. Students take four to six core academic classes each year, with one to three electives. All of our courses in the Upper School set high expectations for students. In some areas, students progress through a sequence of classes not necessarily consistent with grade level, and many Advanced Placement and Honors courses are available.

All RHP courses are guided by our Four Pillars: Disciplined Minds, Sound Character, Healthy Bodies, and Creative Spirits. These Pillars shape and guide our students while preparing them for life in the 21st Century. In short, RHP cultivates life-long learning in every student.
